hello everybody. I just want to say thanks to all of the good info in this forum.
I have a 1970 f100 long box with a 360 c/6 it runs good but it leaks alot of oil and the tranny is pretty weak. I have plans to rebuilt both and keep the FE with a few extra horses, but money is tight right now and I found 302 with a c4 in a 1980 pickup the motor is orignal out of a mustang (year unknown) with 2bbl carb. It runs great and the truck is drivable. I can get the whole truck for $50 and thought about putting the motor and trans in my '70.
How hard is this swap going to be and would it be worth it? will I be able to use the motor mounts, transmission mount and drive shaft from the 80 doner truck or will I have to get them from a '70's truck.
I love my truck and want to drive it more. I am also hoping that the 302 will be better on gas then the big block.
Any advice is appreciated and I thank you all.

I would buy the 80 and drive it and rebuild the 70. When the 70 is done sell the 80 and get more than $50 and recover some of the cost of your rebuild. I do not know if you would get better mileage with the 302 over the 360, little engine has to work harder.
When I got my 69, there was a 302 / C4 sitting in it. Since it never came with a 302 I can't say for sure how to go about making it work, but my best guess is that you buy the motor and frame mounts from a 73-77 F-100 with a 302 and make it work that way. You might be able to find what you need on ebay for $20! I get deals on there all the time.
Thanks everybody for your responses. I have been still debating on doing the swap. I have tossed the idea around of , yes just fixing the leaks and keeping the FE. I would have to pull the motor anyway. I think it just needs a new gasket set.
Steve, FEs have a reoccuring problem with the ends of the intake manifold. A lot of engines leak at the rear and rear mains and trannys get blamed.
You can pull the intake without pulling the engine. I would advise you to have help doing the job, because the intake weighs in the 75 pound range and can blow a new seal during installation. Then ya gotta do it all over again. It'll take most of a day to do it too.
