I have a nice bronco 2 that runs great, but i dont know much about it. I wanted to know that if the front hub is in free position should it be moving when im driving in 2wd or only in 4wd. I have read that they can lock up but i dont know if this is even locked up or just normal.
In "Free" the wheel is disengaged from the axle in all t-case positions. The hub will turn with the wheel regardless as the wheel studs secure the hub to the wheel. In "Lock" the axle is engaged with the wheel via the hub in all t-case positions. Keep the hubs in "Free" on dry pavement and only in "Lock" when you need front wheel traction on loose/slippery surfaces. Hope this helps.
thanks for the reply. I also want to find a good repair manual because i think my gaaskests are leaking. I took it in for inspection and asked him to look at some smoke coming from the engine on both sides. He said my valve covers were loose to the touch and he tightened them promptly, but the smoke persisted for a few days. It has recently subsided because i think it just needed to burn off the manifold, but im not sure.
You said the leaking valve covers are an easy fix, maybe the left side but I can't even see some of the bolts on the right side.
I have to adjust the valves on mine so I nned to get that one off.

You may need to remove easy stuff but nothing hard. Assuming you mean the passengers side I flipped the alternator back towards the fender to get better access there and the ones by the plenum might be hard to see but you can get to them.
