I am looking to buy one of those DUI distributors from Performance Distributors. They curve your distributor based on the specifications you give them...most of their questions I don't really know the answer to....so I'll ask them here..
What is the compression ratio for a 390?
What is cam duration and what is the cam duration for a 390? at .050"?
What is the valve lift?
What is my max RPM - 390 with c6 automatic?
I think there is also a significant difference between the truck 390s and car 390s. (just in case they might have swapped a car engine into the truck).
I really like what the DUI system has to offer. But, I'm not sure why you would want a $400 ignition system on a stock 390. The two main benefits I could see, possibly better mileage and fewer wires under the hood. oterwise, a good Ford duraspark system should be adequate for a stock 390.
I have too agree with Greg, I cant see any good useing a DUI with a stock 390..when you can take that same $400 and use it to buy some bolt on stuff..Too increase performance such as Greg mentioned, The Dura spark or a Pertronix swap.. for Ignition, a set of headers, another carb, intake etc....
thanks for the responses...I found my pertronix set that I already had from another truck that I junked out...so of course I decided to just go with that and a rebuilt distributor. Runs very well now...
Be careful about recurving your distributor on a truck motor. It's fine IF you don't tow or use it as a working truck. The faster advance will cause it to ping like crazy when you pull a load up a hill.
LOL...nothing like first hand knowledge...what's that saying.."experience is the best teacher"....sometimes I'm so dang hardheaded that's the only way I learn...lol.

Don't ask how I know.
Very true. This is part of the reason why we have vacuum advance!
