My name is Brannon and I usually stick in the 60's forum but today i was helping my friend change his oil pan gasket and he has a 74 F-100 we were jacking up the engine and he didnt notice that the jack was on the drivers side radiator line that comes out of the radiator so.... the radiator started leaking where the line goes in to the radiator. Now i was wondering if we need to replace the whole radiator or if there is a cement bond or something we can use. If you guys have had good experiances with anything please tell us. Thanks alot, Brannon
Radiators are not all that expensive, but if you feel that you really want to patch the radiator, I fixed a radiator problem similar to yours with JB Weld. It lasted for 3 years, until I sold the vehicle, and it never leaked a drop. Just make sure you clean up the surfaces very well.
If you fix it yourself with solder, don't be cheap with the solder.
Use lots. I didn't use enough once and the rad leaked after I put it all back together. How does that saying go , Pour the coal to it. Or in this case, solder. Use lots, pile it on.
I suggest "plumbers putty" very simler to j-b weld but better. Why?
because it comes premeasured...its like a ho-ho. stuff in the middle and all you have to do is knead it and stick on a clean surface. It gets hard as steel. check it out can be found at most hardware stores. GOD BLESS
