Thumbs down Big rims

Ive know the guy since he was in the 6th and i was in the 3rd, he works at my dads shop nowadays, he bought a 03-04 nissan exterra nothin special, hes got 600 dollars worth of sterieo and it sounds like crap, he bought the truck new and the emblems are falling off. Hes got 20s..... , it rides like CRAP!! he decided hed drive it down to my place, 5 miles down a ruff azz gravel road , on the way here he dented his 3500 dollar rims, now he was smart and got five, if not hed been driving on a 17 inch spare... . Theres a kid at my school with 22s and he had to drive for a week on his 17 inch spare, every tiem he hit a bump it would be on three hweels.

got any more stupid looking cars that have big rims?
i have no idea why the picture was blurry but heres the truck

I can't say that I understand it either. I live back in Philly now, and everything has a set of rims on it. The other day, I saw a kid driving a Buick Century...he couldn't have been 20 years old, and he had ginormous rims on it. It looked awful. You can'tfix that dent and paint the car, but you can afford those rims? Oh well, ain't my money. Some things though, I think would be better served with bigger rims. Take the new Mustangs for example. I'm not talking about giant chrome rims, just something to fill the well better. I can't stand how Chip Foose does it to everything he touches too. He's an amazing artist, but come on, a Chevelle on 20s?!

I don't see how rims that large would look good on anything. Tell him to put a set of 35's on his truck and the rims might not look so stupid.

There's an art to it. Some cars can pull off '20s. Others can't. Kinda like dudes that wear pink dress shirts. Some guys can pull it off, some cant! With the right stance and paint, a tri-five chevy or a chevelle can do 20's I think. It all depends on the car, and how it was built.

Where I live, it's common to see big rims on certain types of cars - usually older sedans. the owner will put the rim size somewhere noticeable in big chrome numerals so you've got a $700 car with $7000 worth of tires and rims. In my area, at least, this screams "drug dealer".

Thumbs down

To me oversized rims remind me of the spoke wheels you'd see on a covered wagon.

Where i come form it screams stupid.

I saw the other night a caprise classic that looked like it had a lift kit to fit the rims under it. but this entire car was done paint body work, interior, and some big azz 20 something rims under it.

No need for a jack or ramps to change that car's oil.

They are all over the place around here. 2-4 inches of lift just so they can put 22s or 24s in their wheel wells. Caprices, Cutlass', even an El Camino.

I've been seeing those for the last couple of months around here too. Wondered what moron started this 'style'. Some bigger than stock rims can really make a car, especially if it's lowered where it's got a mean stance for handling. You can also ruin the looks of a car with gigantic "drug dealer pimpin' bling bling" rims. What idiots came up with big lift kits and the "4WD Look" for sedans? Probably the same ones that started radically lowering TRUCKS a few years back.

There are plenty of SUVs and pick-ups around here with those huge rims and it looks stupid. What's worse to me is the rims with the spinners. Geez.

It doesn't do anything for me when I see huge wheels on any car or truck. Now a slightly larger diameter and wider wheel with a tire to match is good. It actually helps handling and traction without riding like a wagon or looking like a car with wagon wheels.

Does anyone remember the sixties and seventies of really tall and wide rear tires and tires on the skinny side up front?
