Distributor

Ok #1 cylinder is firing ever now and then so iam replaceing the distributor with a earlier point type. What all do i need. I am going to get all of the following
distributor,cap,coil,rotor button,plugwires. Is that all i need ?

You would also need a resistor or resistor wire to the coil, but WHY would you get rid of the electronic ign for a points type? Yeah, it's simpler, but horses are simpler than cars. don't mean I'm gonna trade down. (unless gas goes up some more).LOL

you'll need a condenser too.

make sure you have a dwell meter when you fire it up with the points.

What could i rig up to hold the new coil in place

You don't necessarily need a dwell meter, while it probably is a little more accurate you can set the points with a set of feeler gauges. Set the dwell before the timing. Also when working with old points distributors when you're putting the condenser and points in make sure none of the wires ground out on the base plate.

the new distributor came with the points so i dont have to but them iam planning on putting everything on the truck today i'll keep u guys posted on how it's coming
