I'm in search of a transmission for a 1951 Ford F-150. If anyone has one laying around in the garage from an upgrade I'd love to get my hands on it. I'm really trying to keep my truck as original as possible. It's a 3 speed on the column. Even if its an old one you've got laying out back, I might be able to use some of the gears to fix mine. Thanks!
Call me at 281-648-7964. If I don't answer, leave a message. I have some information on a guy that had one attached to a 6 cyl flathead near Pittsburgh a little while back. Seems to me he only wanted around $150.00 for all of it and it included the streering column ith all of the linkage.
I have one that is a boat anchor. It was a floorshift and the case is broken. It had a bunch on water in it when I drained it and there is a bit of rust in there. Might be good for parts but I'm in Texas.
I have a 3 speed that came out of a 1950 merc. I pulled it from a flathead I bought on e-bay. I bought the engine and tranny as a package but replaced the tranny with a 5-speed. I have never run it since I'm still about 2 yrs. from the street or show on my 1952 F-1, but the engine is a rebuilt 239 with a 3/4 race cam and offy heads with 1000 mi. on it and I have to think that with all they put in the motor they wouldn't put a 2nd rate tranny behind it. I can let you have it for 150.00 if you pay for shipping from St. Louis.
1 EYE JACK -
Could you post the numbers on that tranny you have? Or could you send a pic, or I could send you one. Was that set up for a floor shift or column?
Thanks to everyone that replied..I've been looking for a tranny for quite awhile!
Sorry it took me so long to reply. I believe the numbers on that tranny are 89(9?)A-2379300. (I'm not positive on that second 9.) It is set up for a column shift
The Ford or Merc car trannies will not fit without modifactions to the rear crossmember and driveshaft. There's parts available to rebuild the truck trans. Sounds like you need bearings which can be bought from NAPA or CarQuest.
We've rebuilt it, thought that would fix the problem. But it still knocks, and only in first, not reverse, second or third. It's been quite frustrating.
BTW - I spoke with I your father this evening. I told him you could have mine with the broken case. Might be good for some parts but it had water in it when I drained it. I never could figure out how it held water with a cracked case but it did.
