I am nearing the completion of a frame swap project, putting a 1950 Chevy Deluxe Cab onto an '84 Ranger. Cheers or jeers, it's already done and looks amazing.
Have a question about wheels though. The stock wheels are functionally fine, no rub or anything, but could stand to come out ~2 inches. Is there a stock wheel I should look for that has a deeper dish than the standard ranger?
Right now, it has the original 195/75-14, and I want to put in a set of 215/75-15's.
First off, your tire size has little to do with deep dish. Deep dish is acheived by the width of the rim, and the offset of the rim. A 10" wide wheel will have more deep dish look than a 7" wide wheel. The wider you go, the more you need to be concerned with the offsets of the wheel. Once you get the rims, then you go with tires. Remember, a 15" wheel is bigger than a 14" if your going with a taller tire with a 15" rim, you may be too tall. If that makes sense? I'd go to a tire dealer and tell them what you want. Not sure why you would put a Chevy cab on a 84 Ford frame??????????? Might be the first....
I have put "an old truck" on a 1984 Ranger. It has given me modern everything, good driveability, and it was a rustbucket of a Ranger owned by an old neighbor who had just spent big bucks to have the 2.3L rebuilt. Gas here is now over $1.00 a litre ($4.00 a gallon), so why would anyone even want a 351 anymore? And yes, it may be the first, and it's mine. I figured some Ford folks would appreciate the idea.
I want a wheel that will fit the Ranger bolt pattern, but be offset up to 2" wider than a stock 15" Ranger wheel. Could I be looking for something like a Fairlane or Mach 1 that would have come with something that will do what I want it to?
