78 CrewCab a/t conversion
I have a 78 CrewCab 4x4 that I bought to work on this winter. It has a 351M that will be the first thing to go and a manual trans. I have a 76 F250 with a 460 and I plan on rebuilding the 460. My questions are: will the C-6 from the 2wd truck work with my transfer case without lots of modification and does anyone know a reliable engine shop in the Seattle area? I've read tons of posts about 460 building and I have a good handle on what I want to do. I am a little worried about finding the right guy to build my motor.

I replaced the NP435 in my '77 CC 4x4 with an automatic. I used an automatic out of a van. I had to change the output shaft, and housing to one that came from a 4x4. Note that my CC has a divorce mounted transfer case. I also had to move my transmission crossmember towards the rear and down a little to accommodate the new location of the transmission mount. Some trucks have both of these mounting holes already in the frames, some do not. With your married transfer case, I would still expect that you would have to change your output shaft and tailshaft housing on your tranny.
