MY 2002 F-250 7.3, 87,000 MILES. JUST LOST POWER AS I WAS GETTING ON THE FREEWAY, WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER, AND AFTER ABOUT THREE MINUTES IT STARTED AND I NURSED IT OFF THE FREEWAY. IT WAS BARELY RUNNING, I CALLED AAA AND HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALER, FOR $188.50 THEY COULD NOT FIND ANY CODES OR MAKE IT FAIL, THEY SAID EVERYTHING WAS AOK AND THAT IT HAD 15LBS OF BOOST. I HAVE BEEN DRIVING IT FOR THREE DAYS NOW (300 MILES) AND NO PROBLEMS.
I AM TOWING A LIVESTOCK TRAILER W/30 GOATS IN TWO WEEKSTO ARKANSAS AND AM A LITTLE NERVIOUS ABOUT RELIABLITY.
Yeap, just what ELGINITIS said. I have an '02 wiyh 94k and the same thing happened to me, it just quit on the freeway! and after about 3min it started again and kept stopping whenever it felt like it. I talked to a FORD dealer mechanic and just by what I said was my problem he said it was the CPS (cam position sensor), it's about $200 at a dealer and about $70 on E-Bay, it is easy to replace unless you have dual alternators (10mm wrench and maybe a flat srew driver to pry it out).
Have fun Buddy.
