Ok, we own two 02, f-350, crew cab, 4x4, srt. box, etc... the whole nine yards. Both are equipped with 7.3's and auto trannies. The newer of the 02, about six months newer, almost hit 100,000 mi. and the rear main seal went out. NOW, the older 02 is at about 115,000 mi. and we are 95% sure it's the rear main seal. Is there something about these 7.3's with or without the auto tranny that just eats these rear mains? Any advice or knowledge provided would be wonderful and greatly appreciated.
nothing on the rear mains that i know of. ive got some real high mileage trucks and havent had the rear main leak. i would check the high pressure oil rail plugs at the back of the heads the plug is about 1" round. they have 3500 psi against them all the time. ive had them leak on every truck ive had. and i know they redesigned the seals at some point the date i dont know though.
