Shifter Handle - Coming Off
I have seen it in other vehicles, but never in one of mine. I have owned to date 5 ford pickups with standard transmissions, never a problem... and all of a sudden, in my current 1990 ford, it happened... my shift **** popped off the gearshift. And to beat all, it did it between first and second while I was making a left turn on a semi-busy street. Leaving me out of gear.... I made in across luckily, and since have attempted to correct my habit of pulling on the **** at the same time as shifting, but it is still problematic by turning on me... and it gets looser every day.. What is the best stuff to use in this case? I thought about JB weld, but wasn't sure if it would stick to the hard rubber of the ****, I don't think there is any metal inside the hole. Anyone out there ever sucessfully fix this without resorting to duct tape? Please let me know. Thanks.

I've had it come off on me too. Warm it up with a hair drier and jam it back on. Do it on a cool night. Warming it will let it get on there a little more than normal, and when it cools it'l contract and tighten up. Neither of my shifters have required glue or adheisive. You don't want to glue it on or you'll never get it off.
