My 2000 E350 dual AC system is not putting out the cold air it used to... A friend of my did a quick recovery and refill and discovered that the head pressure is very high... About 380 to 425... Since he is not an expert he suggested I take it to someone more experienced but he felt the head pressure might indicate a Condenser problem. As long as the Van is moving and set to Max AC the air is pretty cold but I don't want to let this drag on to long...
Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas before I take it to an AC place...?
Give us more info, ambient air temps, idle speed when reading pressures, clean condensor, cluctch fan tested, etc. Have you checked your AC performance against a performance chart for your vehicle? Assume that the refill was at indicated R-134 quantity on the underhood sticker? Quick recovery and refill waht does that mean?
But the Ambient Temp was 96F Felt Temp was 106F. High side pressure at Idle was 380, at 1.5 to 2K RPM it went to 425.
External inspection showed everything functioning and clean. As far as the recovery and refill is concerned he used a AC recovery and fill machine with vacum ability... After as I said at the beginnning I don't know squat. We did confirm the fill amount from the info on the core support, which was 4lbs for a rear air system...
Try pinching off one of the hoses to the heater core to see if that has any effect. Could be a blend door problem allowing heat to reach the evaporator which could explain some of the pressure readings and the poor AC cooling. Let us know what you find.
