Help!! 1997 Ford Explorer-tranny
Hello all,
I need a guru! Purchased previously owned Eddie Bauer Explorer. Periodically, If I hit a sudden bump or rev engine, a sound comes from Tranny vicinity that lounds like a combo pushmower/blender - once I rev up, the sound goes away ...for the moment.
And then sometimes, If I start the truck and try to put it in reverse, I'll get the aformentioned sound ...and no go! I actually have to throw it in Neutral, set the 4X4 switch to "Low", move into reverse, backup a few feet, set everything back to where it was ...and then we're fine ...until the next time it happens.
I called the previous owner back - he showed me paper work where the tranny was recently rebuilt - called another mech. friend of mine and he said "Transfer case/motor"
anybody had this before ...and what should I do?

man it can be a number of thing from shift motor not working corecctly (clean it) shifting forks bad (buy and put parts in) or the helix cut gear are popping because the faultiy 4405 bearing's in that case you will need a new t-case (the old housing will be shot)
I had same problem with my old 97 then I swapped it off
