As far as I know there is no "firewall vin tag". The VIN on a 87-96 Ford truck would be found on the dash. If you look through the windshield by the drivers side rear corner of the hood you should see it. It could also be found on the drivers side door sticker in the frame near the latch. I checked your #'s and could not find any legit VIN's starting with 5F250, or E9DC. Mabey I am wrong but I think you are reading the wrong tag.
We think it may be the tag from the bed or the core support or some other body part. It is about 3"X2" and is embossed with the Ford oval and the numbers and it was riveted on to the truck someplace. It probably contains the plant and paint codes but I need help figuring it out.Thank You
the E9 on the tag is an 89 part number. That part could have been used on a late production 88 all the way up to a 91 year truck. You really need the door tag or the vin on the dash to tell for sure. The door tag will actually say a month and year of manufacturer like 9/89 or something like that.
It turns out that we are pretty sure it was the tag from the "cat"(converter). We found it after someone ran over my mailbox and a few shrubs and took off. Any Ford truck guy worth his salt could recognize the Ford numbers but it took more than one of us to put it all together. Thank You for your help.
