Tailgate handle
Ok, connected to the tailgate handle are two rods that pull open the latches. Those rods keep falling out of place on the handle. How are those things suppost to stay in place?

There is a metal slide on "spring nut" that holds them in place. You can find them at auto parts stores. It only slides on and is not threaded like a standard nut. Sometimes you see them on axles on wagons, barbques, etc. to hold the wheels on. measure the size of the metal rod before going out to look for one though. I replaced them on my 77, but dont' remember the size. Good luck!

If you use those metal spring nuts, the holes in the lever on the mechanism will get oval shaped after a while and will not operate the latches properly. There are plastic inserts that go in the holes in the lever on the mechanism. I am not sure where to get the inserts, but these are what were in there when your truck was new.
