Popping noise
I started getting very strange popping noises from underneath my 01 X PSD aft of the engine. Lots groaning and other strange noises, but only when starting off. Once up to speed it seems to work better. It also is very rough going into drive from reverse and rough when going from first to second. Those of you that peruse through multiple forms might recognize this post from the post I made about the engine missing and my wife being on the road on 7.3 PSD forum. She made it home okay but it is not an engine issue more of a tranny/driveline issue. Any ideas?

In my old Mustang, the symptoms you describe indicated a broken motor mount. To check, lift open the hood, put a firm foot on the brake pedal, shift into drive and press the gas. If the engine flops over to one side, yout motor mount is broken. (try the same thing in reverse also)

More investigations are revealing that it is now stuck in first gear and the popping noises are some sort of binding inside the transmission. Sounds like the whole driveline is tearing itself apart. Good thing it is still under the extended warranty. What's odd is I had the tranny redone because of some very rough shifting only 10K miles ago and they replaced a selenoid.
