My 79 f100 has the factory duraspark ign.(duh, stick with me here!). My question is when i went to buy a new coil the terminal conns. are different than mine. I know the ele. ign. uses a plastic connector that ties both wires together and slips onto the side of the coil. My coil wires attach like a points coil (slip on connectors like the starter sol.) The wiring appears to be factory? Has any one have a setup like this? Do you think this is a points type coil? I dont think the points coil would be able to supply enough volts for a ele. ign. Would this be a correct assumption? If if is ele. ign. coil would is it worth it to upgrade to an aftermarket coil (noticable increase in power)? Sorry bout the novel, just want to get this figured out. Any help is greatly appreciated.
So this means that i have a coil for points ign? Would swapping to a elecrtonic coil improve performance? I do not seem to be getting enough spark. The plugs have to be changed more often than necessary, the fuel mix is adjusted correctly and the truck isnt running rich out the exhaust.
It is a good possibility, I would put the correct coil on it. Any late 70's model would have the electronic ignition in case you have to go to a junkyard and clip the coil plug out of another one.

Thanks for your reply! I bought a MSD blaster 2 coil today and what a difference! The plugs look a lot cleaner and the truck drives alot better also. Thanks again for your help lx.
speaking of the duraspark dist I'm retrofitting a 302 into my skiboat and need to know of the color codes and destination for each in order to properly install it.Can anyone help?? which is the tac which is the coil lead and the other being supply. the wiring schematic would have my answer. ???anyone???
Here is the wiring diagram. The negative coil terminal (GREEN wire) would go to a tach. The other side of the coil is power - it's powered through a ballast resistor in RUN, and powered directly in START.
