I assume you mean PCV, and if you replace it, use a Motorcraft. I have heard that there have been some problems with other brands (seems unlikely with such a simple device, but not worth taking a chance on).
However, they seldom need replacement (usually just cleaning). On the other hand, they're cheap enough that you almost might as well do it at the same time. Your choice!
there is another test you can do on the pcv valve air should only flow one direcrion if you blow on one end (not sure which end) air should flow freely, then blow through the other end and no air should pass through if it does then the valve needs replaced. But I agree that either you can clean it or replace it they are not very expensive.
I just got a 2001 ford super crew with the 5.4 and when it is running you can hear a buzzing sound under the hood, i opened the hood and got to feeling around and when i grab the pcv valve it is buzzing and vibrating like crazy, is this normal?
Always replace the PCV valve. Just because they rattle or you can/can't blow air thru does not mean they are any good. They DO wear out and should be replaced annually.
why did it come with a new hose you only replace them like never, unless they are clogged or leaking. HMMMMMMM. although if the PCV valve passed the test I prescribed I would not have changed it. sporry if I led you down the wrong road. all the pcv valves i have dealt with have only cost 2 to 3 dollars. but usally I do the blow test it it past I don't change. they last a long time.
I had to replace the tube and it came with the pvc valve! I could not get just the tube by itself from the dealer! Sorry for the misunderstanding. Maybe other dealers had them separate but not mine!
Got it, you are better off with the OEM part (TUBE) but you could have also gone down to the autoparts store and bought the two feet of hose for 2 or 3 $ and had the same thing. It would not have come with the special cover the ford part did.
