I am sorry, but I am not very technical when it comes to fords. I have a 351Modified, and I took the Distributor out, and the thing will not go back in. I don't know if it is hitting the oil pump shaft, or what. Is there a common problem, or cause it might be.

I have this problem all the time. You're hitting the oil pump shaft, which has gotten off center. As said, just have patience. But for me, after multiple tries, that sometimes runs out. So I take a good probing magnet and pull the shaft out. Warning: If your magnet is not STRONG, and you drop the shaft back in the engine the wrong way, you'll be taking the whole top of the engine off.
I then clean the shaft and the hole in the distributor as well as I can. Then take some thick grease like axle grease and smear it on the distributor end of the shaft. Push it into the distributor and hold the unit right side up. The shaft should stay. Install it. If the shaft is just a bit worn and won't stay in the distributor, clean it up again and apply one TINY drop of superglue to the shaft and insert it into the distributor. That will hold it till you install it, and won't hurt anything (the glue will break loose as you run the engine, but will stay on the shaft).
