I just purchased a 2003 E-150 XLT Club Wagon, well equipped, with 16,800 miles. As I said before, our other "car" is a 1990 E-150 XLT Club Wagon. I guess when you find something good... :-)

Got it at Jerry's Ford in Annandale, VA.

Not as familiar with the Econolines. Are these windowed vans with seats in them of more of a work truck/van?

Good question. Club Wagons are passenger Econolines. Econolines are panel vans, Club Wagons are window vans.

I have 4 kids and a 5th on the way, so I need the passenger room! :-)

 

That's interesting, I never new the difference. I have seen Club Wagon's, but assumed they were Econolines.

Yeah, they're the same van, except the intended end use. Club Wagon for passengers, Econoline for cargo.

 

I was taking my daugther to a college course today and I passed a two tone tan Club Wagon, sure enough Club Wagon right where the Econoline. Looked to be a late 80's to early 90's van in great shape.

We have had mini vans for years with our two kids. Wouldn't be without them. With 5 kids, I expect a Club Wagon is a necessity. Course the big ones of these carry 15 passengers as I remember, so you have some room to grow. LOL...

Yeah, I'm van crazy. I have a 1990 Club Wagon 7 passenger. It's setup like a conversion van with four captains chairs and a bench seat in the back that folds into a bed. They now call that the Chateau package.

I just bought the 2003, which holds 8. Both my Club Wagons are half ton.

Then, I take care of two vans at church, a 1 ton 1989 Club wagon, and a 1 ton 1999 Dodge Ram van. Both of those are 15 passenger.

 

Now I'm back down to 1 club wagon. Sold the 1990 today

 

I am sure you are sorry and happy at the same time seeing it go.

Granted our mini vans are smaller and probably (not sure) more economical, but ever since we bought our first van, other than our trucks, we haven't bought any other passenger vehicles that were cars, the vans are too comfortable. We both drive mini vans as our passenger vehicles and the my truck for occaisonal use that a truck is needed for and her truck will be garage kept and only driven for pleasure once it is done being restored.

 

I just can't justify a vehicle with 10-12 mpg as a daily driver for one guy. With the purchase of the 2003 Club Wagon for the family, I need a car for my daily use.

I agree though, that I much prefer vans. My favorite van of all the ones I've had was an old 1981 1 ton Club Wagon 12 passenger. It had a 351M and a cracked right exhaust manifold, but I would haul anything. I loaded it once with two palates of new steel folding chairs, one palate through the side, one through the rear. The thing didn't even squat.

It came completely stripped. No interior trim in the rear, even though it was a passenger van. It came with a rubber floor and 3 bench seats in the back; and a rubber floor and two lowback buckets in the front. The seats didn't have arm rests. It had radio delete, so I had to add a speaker and an antenna and run wiring to put a radio in it. The only option it had was A/C and it still worked great.

It was LOUD, because it had no sound insulation in the ceiling, walls or floor, but it would go anywhere. Like an idiot, I gave it to my brother-in-law who told me he needed a vehicle. He then sold it and kept the money. Grrr

By the way, anyone wanna part with a good 1997 or newer Escort 5 speed for a good price, or even better a V-6 4x2 Ranger 5 speed?

 

My F-250 get's that kind of milage generally on the lower side though. Fortunately the minivans get in the upper teens to low 20's so they are fine for commuter vehicles for us.
