D'oh! 4.6 swap
Anyway, I'm looking at the logistics of putting a 2000 4.6 Police into my '50. The idea is to get a newer motor, PS, PB, and A/C in one swipe, instead of peacemealing stuff together. Plus my old 302 needs a lot of work and has none of the goodies I'd like to get through the swap.
Since my 50's a Sunday cruiser, and not a work or towing truck, I believe the 4.6 will be adequate, and the 1999+ modulars are PI with the possible upgrade to the new heads the 05 Mustang GT's carry...though that's not really what I'm worried about at this point.
Lots of guys have suggested a 5.4 instead, for power reasons, but I can't find measurements to know what kind of modifications I would have to do to get one to fit in my truck, and I don't know that the price increase is worth it, for what I use my truck for.
From what I've found in the other forums, Mounts will have to be fabricated, wiring will, of course, have to be brought over too, as well as the tranny. The big question mark hangs over the "Smart Key" system. I'm not sure of the best way to bypass or incorporate it into my truck.
What do you guys think?
My mechanic friend is planning on a 4.6L late 60s Mustang, since he has loads of those and PI CVics.
The engine harness is seperate and I guess the gauges can be worked out...
Maybe he can give you a little insight as to what's involved.
