Steering Column Electric Hookup
Can anybody tell me what all the wires are for on the dash harness to steering column hookup? I need to huckup some running lights and want them to come on at engine startup. So I am thinking a circut that comes on with the ignition.
Any help would be great, I have a 98 F150.

The best thing to do is get a foglamp relay. I am assuming these running lights are going to be mounted outside, so you could mount the relay under the hood. Power for the lights will run directly from the battery, through a fuse, and then to the relay. Then another wire will leave the relay and feed your added lighting.
A small wire hooked to the coil of the relay will run to a place in one of the fuse boxes. You should have a fuse box under the hood, but I don't know if that fuse box has any hot in run circuits. If it doesn't, you will have to run the small relay coil wire through the firewall and into the under-dash fuse box. Find a fuse that is hot in run only(something like the radio circuit will work). You can go to the store and buy what they call a fuse tap, which will give you a place to hook your wire.
When the fuse you tapped receives power, the power signal will travel down the small wire you added and fire the relay. The relay will connect the fused battery power to your running lights. I think Walmart has a foglamp kit that contains the relay, wiring and instructions to wire it up. Here's some diagrams to give you some ideas.
