Friend has a 1986 150 4X4 302 Fuel injected. Problem is it will not start checking the wring the fuel pump has no power??? Have changed the fuel relay Relay wires..... #1 has power #2 has power # 4 Has power # 3 no power.... Id I jump wire 3 and 4 fuel pump runs... any thing I should look for??? Any help much appreciated...
I'd check the fuse for the pump first. After that, let us know. Could be anything from the ignition switch to a fuseable link, or in-between. The only real way to find out is to dig out a light tester and start tracing the system back to the start, and find out where the power loss is. I'd bet on a fuse first.
Have checked fuses all are fine....It is in the fuse block right???? Fusible links are fine to.... Of course even when jumping the pump I still had no start
These trucks will usually allow the pump to run, but will not allow flow until the engine is cranked over.
If you can get the pump running with the key on, but not cranking, you've got a better starting point.
Keep in mind even the carbed trucks have an in-tank pump as well as a frame mounted pump.
The tank pump is usually a low pressure pump, and the frame rail is a higher pressure pump. Both have to work in conjunction with each other. If one is not working, there will be no fuel feed, or not enough fuel feed to start the truck. Have you checked for a plugged fuel filter(mounted on the carb, at the end of the fuel line input)?
