air filters

What is the difference, if any, in a Ford powercore, Donaldson powercore, Amsoil powercore and Fram powercore airfilter for the 6.0 or are they all the same just in different boxes? Have personally seen the Ford/Donaldson and the Fram. They look the same and have the powercore label embossed on the side. The Fram was white instead of blue.

Well, talked to a tech at Donaldson today. He says they make the aftermarket filters for several brands, but there is a difference. While they are all powercore filters, the filters with the white media are cellulose based and the filters with the blue media are synthetic and have a better ability to filter. He also said there was no need to replace until the filter minder moves because they have to have 2/3 of the tube or cores filled up in the filter before its ability is reduced.

Is it worth it to take the stock (Donaldson) out and knock the dirt out of it? Also how far should the filter minder move before you replace the filter.

I wondered what the difference in color was. My new filter came in a Donaldson box, and looked identical to the stock filter, except the color. The stock was blue, the replacement was a white/tan color. The patent pending numbers were identical, as was the housing. The new filter had a powercore symbol on the housing, but the stock blue filter did not.

Also cellulose based... over time will have degradation, from plain-o-atmosphere...synthetics will take a few hundred years to achieve that

I too called and received the same answer about color and performance.

From research, this is the best filter media and design to date for a light duty truck and Ford has done well to use and design the "Donaldson system" into our truck designs.

I have wondered if the "Powercore" filter was already designed and made and Ford just made it fit into the engine bay... hence the reason that it "just fits". An extra 1" shorter and life would have been easier... but it's not and my dad reminds me "that life is not easy."

I would like to learn if this filter is used in any other application, design, motor that may be out there... or does Donaldson make it exclusively for Ford and the Powerstroke diesel? I heard or read that Ford wanted a different air filter system at first, but International said no if they were to warranty and stand behind the design of the 6.0L motor and its opperational capabilities. H

Does anyone have any insite... I forgot to ask when I called.

Thanks,

Jeff

Brian,

Is the WIX filter the white celulose or the blue synth. material?

If both, what is the cost since I am to lazy right now to go to the website. What are the part numbers?

Thanks,

Jeff
