Equilizer hitch like EZ-Lift and a sway bar is all you need. Ad-a-leaf takes the ride out of any rig. If you want a level and smoth ride an equilzer hitch is the way to go. It's the best because you don't change your springs, shocks, spacers or YOUR RIDE. I have been all over and looked at alot of rigs, you ask any one who tows and you will get the same answer it's equilizer hitch.
Only problems with those are they're expensive and they are not gonna help you if you have any weight in the bed of the truck. Adding a leaf does not hurt your ride unless you get to thick of a gauge and in most cases will help the stability of the ride. I strengthen the springs for all of the airplane deicers you see at the airports and it's amazing when you see what one extra leaf will do when put through a 150 mph wind test.
Call your local spring shop and have them make you one cause then you don't have to wait for it to be shipped and will cost the same or maybe even less and it's better steel and you can decide on your gauge. Support your local shops and use the lift companies for lift kits, not add a leaf
It is a good idea to use local business, I agree, but I have no idea where to start my search for the "local spring shop." I didn't even know such places existed.
I added a leaf on the front of my 03 CC PSD. I reused the ubolts (many say a no-no). Got factory type tapered leaves from the local spring shop. Lifted the front almost two inches. I sit 1/4 higher in the rear. I now clear my 305's with no rubbing, the ride is a little stiffer but not unbearable by any means. I would do it again. I had $90 in my springs. I will eventually put a 350 block in the rear.
I believe there are two seperate issues here the lift/ capacity and more importantly a question about squat do to a trailer! Take a ruler and put a marshmallow under the 9 inch mark, now put a can of soup at the 12 inch end, ok now replace the marshmallow with a permanent marker at the same 9 in mark..................hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm same result, no weight on the theoretical front end, if you want to tow safely and your truck really squats that much please get an eq hitch !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! under steer, hydroplaning, drift, sway, no thanks and as for those who really believe the answer for the question originally asked is to stiffen the snot out of the suspension.....please let us know where you are towing so we can stay out of the way?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!!?!?!?!?!?!!? on the other issue i agree with the air bags or add a leafs i've used both with great success. Good luck and whatever you do, do it with safety in mind first
There seem to be many experianced talented people here i hope to learn more from all your experience and advice

Reason: after thought
don't know what kind of steel you got for your vehicle before but it was obviously not the right steel if you truly believe it stiffens it that much. An extra leaf is going to decrease sway and drift, not increase it. Just stick around a 401 and you'll be super happy with the end result. I would much rather be behind a vehicle towing with an extra leaf vs not an extra leaf. There's nothing wrong with your equilizer hitch but there's also nothing wrong with adding a leaf. I beef up the springs for the airplane deicers and they go through a 150mph wind test and the stability increases by 31% due to one extra leaf.
As was stated for safety Eq hitch are the safest way to go because they transfer the some of the load up frount the others do the same thing but the springs with no load put unwanted load to the frount when not towing air bag you have change all the time to get the level you want. They all have a place with loads but eq hitchs are the safest.
