So now I have the exhaust dumped right before the rear axle, with no cats. I cant keep my foot out of it, the turbo sound is too addicting. I feel like i gained some horsepower, my truck definitely throws you back into your seat more than stock. Im just kind of torn on weather or not i should leave it or get the BTM muffler in there. I assuming the underneath of my truck will become black with soot, and i dont really like the open sound of the exhaust note, the turbo sound is nice though... the actual exhaust note just sounds too open for my tastes.
Im also wondering too since i dont have gauges as of yet, if this may raise my egts? im thinking if anything it will lower the egts.
Yeah I removed my muffler not too long ago too to see if I would like the straight pipe sound. The turbo whistle and flutter was nice but man it was really loud when I got on it. And forever reason, I felt I lost a bit of low end torque with no muffler. So I put it back on the next day
Those that have the BTM love it. I sure wouldn't want the exhaust dumping underneath, all the soot you speak of can mess things up. Not even mentioning the smell that WILL leak into the cabin. Get it dumping behind the rear wheel, that's the best place.

99bajakid, did you cut your pipe right before the muffler or did you unbolt the rear section...? I took mine off for a short time and was getting a little weary because the pipe was right next to the fuel tank. If you're planning to leave it like that I would recommend an elbow pipe or something.
It wont raise EGT's it does lower them. Same with the BTM, it lowers the EGT's, not as much as full 4inch would but does help out and it does sound nice.

I just unbolted it, i was feeling froggy and wanted to do something to my truck, and i saw how 'easy' it would be to remove the muffler. .. ha it wasnt that easy after getting into it.. i ended up unbolting the shock, and taking out one of my rear sway bar links.. i couldnt figure out how to remove the spare tire.. lol.
the btm is a nice alternative to a full system... not as much money, helps with the egts, sounds good, looks better.... a full system will help you more, but for the money the btm is a great mod...
well i put my muffler back on.. for two reasons really. I didnt really like the exhaust note, sounded too much like a semi with its jake brakes on when i was WOT. The second reason is i have an appointment to take my truck into ford to have them look at my fuel sender, i dont want to give them any reason to void what little warranty i have left. I could just see them saying, 'well your fuel gauge is erratic because you dont have a muffler on, thus its heating up the sender wire'.. or some bs like that. I remember i was refused warranty service on my ranger because i had a K&N intake.. i was never so frustrated in my life.. my transmission was slipping.. wtf does that have to do with a re-usable filter!!! … sorry just re-living some frustration..
