I'm intrigued by the idea of adding a remote starter to current or future cars in my posession.
However, when looking at some on ebay, they say that they will not work on cars with manual transmissions.
Why is this? I know that if you start it in gear, the engine will stall immediately. But, are their other technical reasons you shouldn't put a remote starter in a vehicle with a manual? its easy enough to not leave it parked in gear. Thats what parking brakes are for.
i have seen several options out there that will allow you to install them on manual transmission cars. part of the reason they are not as common though, is like MemOrex said, you have to have the clutch pushed in on most cars, so that switch has to be by-passed, and i then they have an extra module that you have to install. im not sure if it is a proximity switch of some sort to say that it is out of gear or what. all the systems i have installed were on automatics anyhow. keep your eyes peeled, or just find a distributor for the brand you want, and ask them. i would recommend crimestopper..... i installed a starter/keyless entry/window roll up module and i am very happy with it !!
Astro-Start will work with manual trans. It is dealer installed system only. That is not a bad option since they work with these systems everyday. Mine has been great and I have a communication "2/way" distance of over 2,000ft......
