I just moved to FL and in the process I lost the key to my locking lug nut. I need to put new brakes on the 97 150. Any thoughts on how to get the locking lug nut off. It sticks out a little and I was thinking of putting a pipe wrench on it. The rims are aftermarket and I have no idea what happened to the key. I really do not want to take an air harmer to them but it might come down to that. Also anyone know of a good set of brakes for a 97 150 supercab?
well they shouldnt be too easy to remove, or that would defeat their purpose !!! anyways, do you have access to a small welder? i would try to put a snug fitting socket over the end of it, and tack welding it into place in a couple spots. since they arent torqued too tightly, then a ratchet should back it off without breaking the welds. i wouldnt worry about ruining the lug since you lost the key, but you will be out a socket if you cant grind the weld off. good luck, and post back if you get something to work !!
Find a socket that's just a bit smaller than the lug and hammer it on, I've removed a lot of them like this. A 12 point socket will work better than a 6 point socket.

Most tire shops have a tool for just this purpose, they often have lock keys that have been left behind after owners have replaced the security nuts with standards.
