Question Gutting the CAT

For those of you that have gutted the cat on your truck, how did you go about doing it??? How did you remove it from the exhaust system then weld it back??? I would just remove it completly and have a piece of pipe welded in but I want it to look like it's still there incase of warranty stuff.

Thanks,

Motown Fire

Get a cat delete pipe and slap it in there. Then put the cat back in when you take it in for service. Easy and you don't ruin a high dollar cat.

I am new here and I don't wish to insult... BUT! I'm always amazed at how openly some topics are discussed like the illegal acts of gutting a catalytic converter or disabling an EGR valve. It's one thing to do it but to publicly post such actions? Is it or is it not a Federal offense to tamper with an emissions device on a certified vehicle?

Not sure if it is ilegal or not to tamper with your own truck but I like the posts of this nature beacuse the Gov is the reason we have all this eletronics on our vehicles and everything comes from the factory so choked by emmisions regulations when airplanes trains and busses have none and probably make more pollution then our trucks do. I hope I did not offend anyone but I feel all this eletronic control just added more trouble spots for us to deal with.

The last time I was at the dealer I asked the service tech what they would do if I took off the cats when changing the exhaust system to a MBRP turbo back, and he said that they nor Ford has a problem with it, just don't let us see a Power module on the truck and there will be no problems with warranty. But our fuel is low grade here so the cats get pluged pretty fast, and the dealer understand this outcome hurts performance. They really don't do anything on a diesel even if they're new anyway. I was told that by more than One diesel performance shop aswell as the Ford service tech.

Do yourself a favor save the cat and don't ruin it. Get a turbo or cat back system with a cat test pipe and you will get waaaaay more out of that then doing anything with the stock cat. To get anything out of a stock system with or without the cat you'll also need to remove the muffler, but you're still fighting mnon mandrel bent pipes and small diameters too!

Call us if you have any qeustions we have all the MBRP systems that allow you to bolt the cat in stock or not in aluminized 409 and 304 stainless and is singles and duals too!

I put a cat-test pipe and if I need warranty work done, just swap them out takes 15 minutes easily. Put Turbo back on a 05 Harley last night, Silverline was the brand name and that ting sounds wicked without the cat, we had it R&R'd in 2 hours and 15 minutes out the door.

I don't want to spend a whole bunch of money. All I want to do is remove the cat somehow, with a delete pipe or by gutting it. I might also like to put some sort of free flow muffler on. Basically I am trying to get by as cheap as possible. Fire Dept. doesn't pay enough to go out and by a entire system. I am open to any ideas you have. Thanks a alot for any help.

Motown,

I understand the money thing believe me!! Here's the deal though, by the time you source a cat delete, and pipe for the muffler and have a shop weld the muffler and cat pipe in you're looking at 100.00-150.00, amybe more if you can't do any of it yourself. We have complete turbo back systesm that you can install in the driveway starting at -snip-NO DEALER PRICES ON FORUMS. Have them call, email or pm. -end snip-, yes it's more but you would not believe the number of folks that do what you are thinking about and then later get a system anyway as the sound isn't what they want etc. Now you have the cost of two changes instead of one plus the aggrivation and effort twice too!

I just installed the mbrp cat delete and I'm very happy. I have the 4"turbo back ss kit. With the cat it sounded like a stock motor. Maybe a hair louder. Now its got some rumble. Sounds mean from 3-4k. Turbo wistle is twice as loud also.

Not anoyingly loud. I like it. About twice as loud as stock in cab. Outside you will have people looking to see where the plane is.
