Difference between "CHEAP" and common sence...

I'm sitting here with a cigarette machine that cost me seven bucks. A box of cigarette sleeves is two bucks...
The tobacco is my own choice, typically as low as a dollar for a two day supply. A month supply is about seven bucks, twelve max. The cigarette sleeves already have filters in them, and they come out better than Marlboro's...

Is this cheapness, or something I should have done ages ago?

You tell me.

There are a lot of things like that, and I know a lot of us have found similar things, like makeing your own beer, or growing your own veggies, raising ducks for eggs...

I LOVE old time ways!

How about you?

I found the cheapest way is to quit lighting them.

That's what I was going to say.

I can't handle being around smoke.

As far as the topic goes though.
I have know people from the 50's that have made their own with tubes & loose tabbacy.

In fact, I think the name of the machine was a : Viceroy

Well named huh ?

I prefer to smoke tailor mades, but if I was ever in a situation where I had to roll my own, than I would. Just cause its cheaper dosent mean that I will be riding my bicycle to the grocery store, however, if I lost my job or car broke down and couldnt afford anything else, than thats what I would be doing. I dont think you are being cheap greywolf, I think that you are being smart, given your current situation, you are trying not to waste as much money as possible.

To be honest - they taste better. Ever had a "CHERRY MARLBORO"?

Quitting it is on the horizon though - its part of why I went this route...

But there are many things that carry back to the old days, not just vices. making your own bread, doing your own repairs, thinking in terms of what you need vice what you want.

And then there is CRAFTSMANSHIP...

Your own, vesus mass produced...

I can say this - TOMATOES taste better for some reason, if they are grown in your own yard.

PS: Bigdaddy? I think if you ever need a bicycle, were going to have to build it out of used Harley Davidson parts!

There is a difference IMO, between being cheap and being practical.

Cheap in my book is settling for substandard, and you are not doing that here. You are only being more practical in your approach.

I don't think that's cheap at all. And I'll tell you what, the best eggs, veggies, and meat I've ever had was homegrown or killed by the people who go on to eat it.

This brings back memories!

I learned to cook when I was about seven. I refined it some in junior high because the seperation of my mom and dad had happened, and I realised that if i wanted something different, or when I got out on my own anyway - I had dang sure better be able to make my own or be at the mercy of McDonalds.

I figured out how to make my favorites of the things my parents made first - then branched out.

Today, I can include Jalapeno peppers in many dishes that most people would not even think of!

I love peppers...

I have heard a cigarette described as a "white object with a fire on one end and a fool on the other. I cannot argue with this description, but I must admit that some of the smartest people I have known have been smokers so I guess a foolish act does not necessarly a fool make.

I suppose that does fall under "Common Sense", but I was not looking or thinking only about that...

Greywolf, if you're gonna sleeve your own cigs, then see if you can locate a Laredo sleeving kit.

They were popular back in the early 70's.

As for cheapness? Heck no. It's smartness.

Home made bread is as good as you want it to be; so that's a big plus.

Anything home made is as good as...........

We used to be hunter/gatherers. Then came progress.

Is that what they call it? Yea, great.

Yep, Old time ways are also rewarding.

But that's JMHO

A million hippies would say that rolling your own is a very good thing. And so was growing your own grass. I mean for your lawn.

I make my own (usually). The sin tax got too high, and I don't give the gov't any more than I have to.

I thought this would end up as a list of things you do to save money all around, not just in the tobacco dept. I like to think of using common sense in other areas. I use Walmart bags for small trash can liners, for instance. Why buy something that you are just going to throw out anyway?

I bought a Brita water bottle (the kind with a filter in the tip) to carry around, because it is a lot cheaper than buying 10 bottles of water a day- cheap or common sense? (probably a little of both, in that case)

Anybody else have examples?
