I'm interested in knowing from you 6L guys...whos leasing... and whos purchasing? I had a V10 guy suggest that the 6L is being leased more often then purchased, because of feared reliability issues.. So vote on this poll, and we'll get to the bottom of this. Feel free to share why or why not you chose to do what you did.

I leased because it was the smarter business decision for my situation (being a Texas Land Baron and all ). First lease for me in almost 30 years. Last was in 1976.
This deal was unique as I negotiated the selling price to the lease company and therefore knew all the #'s going in. No contract tricks or "How much can you pay per month?" tactics.
As it turns out I leased my wife's Lexus a few months later. My daughter's Escape however, is a purchased vehicle.
Normally, I do not promote or advocate leasing as a purchase alternative. For business / mini-ranching reasons it happened to work out best for me this time. Next time could be different.
The V10 guys think most of you are leasing, because your unsure of the 6L reliability
This is not a bash in anyway but, I don't think the V-10 guys can speak for us or our reasons for leasing. I wonder if they asked any of us?
To make this post even longer than even I intended, I will say this. It could very well be to our advantage if the price / availability of diesel fuel makes the resell value of diesel trucks plummet.
The V-10 could experience this as well if the causal BIG TRUCK buyer drops out of the market due to low MPGs and the continuing rise of gas prices.
Only time will tell, in both cases.
I just know that at least with this specific lease, I cannot loose.
Without getting into specifics and keep in mind that I my truck is used for mini-ranching and business....
...a significant amount. Both annualized and thru term. Remember, I negotiated the sales price and was not dependent upon a "lease consultant" to put me into a "payment I could handle".
Leases do not work for many people. May not work as well for me next time 'cause I may sell my property by then.
But, I have to say, if my lease company works with me again, as well as they did with my truck and my wife's car...may not purchase again.
One very big positive for me is it may make me stay with the vehicle longer.
Since 1971 a vehicle's tenure with me has been 18 - 36 months. My current lease is for 48 months. Doubt I will make it though, will probably start shaking the truck tree around 38 - 40 months. SHHHHH....Don't tell my wife though.
I purchased mine. Been waiting to get this vehicle for many years now and am planning on keeping it for some time. I still believe that the reliability issues are few and far between when compared to the number of 6.0 PDS's sold. I only have 2500 miles thus far and no problems at all with the engine or drivetrain.

lets just say the moderator butted in. yes i have a v10 the rest of my family has 7.3's and 6.0's they have all purchased. all 12 of them. we just drive too many miles for leaseing.
I think two major factors (among many others) would determine my decision to lease vs. purchase a 6.0. 1) the amount of annual mileage driven and 2) the residual amount of the 6.0 if purchased. If you drive too many miles and are not in a business application, a lease is probably not for you. If you pruchase, then consider the bad reputation that the 6.0 (as well as Duramax) has acquired in portions of the marketplace, the fact that FMC is only keeping it in production for 4 years, the price of diesel looks like it is now up forever in comparison to gasoline and the ever-tightening government restrictions on diesel fuel and diesel exhaust; then what's your potential residual? Tough decision. There will always be people out there who need the power/torque of a diesel but not many left who can afford one under these circumstances just because they want one. I noticed in an earlier thread where TnMac had reported he had placed a "for sale" ad on his truck with no responses. Same here, I decided to sell mine a couple of weeks ago and get rid of all the headaches, but to date not a single call. Good Luck!
The polls that Nick was kind enough to set up for me seem to indicate that even though
the 6.0 outsells the V10 by a huge margin, on this website there seems to be a much closer ratio of V10 to PSD owners. The polls now sit at 32 responding for the 6.0 and 30 responding for the V10. It is possible that 6.0 owners are too busy posting all their problems to respond to polls but consider this, read the number of problems the 6.0 has on this website compared to the number of problems that us V10 owners have and you get an idea just how much more reliable these big 10 bangers are. I have always got a kick out of the 6.0 lovers stating that the bad 6.0s are a tiny percentage of total sales. In my case, the 6.0 owners I know, half, yes half of them have had problems. I am approaching V10 owners every time I see one at the pumps and the only complaint you ever get about this motor is it does like gas but then my Doberman

Well, to start with Wrenchtraveller, this is the Lease vs Purchase poll. Which has nothing to do with your dis-satisfaction with the 6.0.
Just for the record. Of the 20+ 6.0 owners that I personally know, none have problems. All but mine are under very heavy use, daily.
Except for entuthusiasts, most people don't seek out web sites to espouse how well their vehicles are running.
To your point, however, it seems that with many more years of in-field experience, the V-10 now has significantly less problems than the 6.0.
Well I got over 20K and less then a year on my 6.0 and I have had no problem with the truck, Yes it's been in the for the trany recall and today the wiring harness but no problem with the truck. I love it way too many miles for leaseing
