you won't find much better than a stock ford unit. the 1980's units are excellent and have the biggest opening of any windows. the only downside is you must use the matching gasket as the window actually mounts to the outside of the hole. it fits right in and i am told that all 1973 to 1996 back window openings are the same. i used an 89 back window in Big Ed and the cab is a 75 so i know it will work. i was going to rebuild the stock 78/9 sliders i have but when i saw how well the 80's units are made i switched. hawkrod
I've been trying to rebuild the stock slider in my '79 but have been having trouble locating a channel gasket that will allow the sliders to slide freely without binding. I tried a few of the JCW gaskets along with gaskets from some local suppliers. No luck sofar..... it doesn't leak... but it also doesn't slide.
I ended up replacing my rear window when the locking clip didn't work. The guy at the glass shop talked me into putting in a whole new window. It's a single piece slider with a plastic clip, but it fit in great and it's tinted too. It ran me about $100. Slides, seals, and looks nice. I was suprised for a cheap investment....that and I learned a thing or two about how to replace the rear window.
I rebuilt one about a year ago. Went to the local glass shop for the slide whisker strips and he was able to match the original right up with one from his suppliers book. They come in about three foot lengths.
