Shackles are the easiest and will drop the back 1-3 inches. To get 3 inches, he will have to get JLP shackles. They are the only company that makes them. Drop hangers are good for 2inches and are a major PITA to replace. Drop springs will get you 3 inches and reduce payload. Flip kit will drop the rear end 6-7 inches.
If he decides to go w/ just shackles, he can replaced them easily. dropkit.php

For 2-3 inches, shackles are the only way to go. Belltech, DJM, Chassis Tech, JLP all make good shackles.
