i put in a post and i knew that i needed a diffreant oil pan but i forgot to put in there does any one know that oil pan will fit. i am putting a 87 351w out of a f250 in to a 86 mustang. when i went to set the motor in the oil pan sat on the k mem.
The 302 pan WILL NOT WORK on a 351w. You need one of the aftermarket pans from FMC, Mildon, or such. Summit and Jegs have em in stock usually. Also watch the front drain plug on these pans. The front sway bar can hit em and tear it off causing oil lose and bad things to happen. Someone sells spacers for those sway bars.
Also use the stock 302 motor mounts for the mustang incase your trying to use the truck ones.

Ford has a production, or at least used to, have, from the Police Crown Vics, as i stated in your post in the engine swap forum... You have to have a pan from a Windsor, no other pan will work. It also has to be from a car, no truck or van will work either. You will also need a sump to make it work out.
I just looked it up, and Jegs has the pan, as well as the sump. $131.99 for the pan, # 397-M-6675-A58 all you need is in the set for that price, wisj it was available back when I did the swap on my 79...

The reason a 302 pan won't work is because of the depth due to different stroke, and the main bearing and crank diameter sizes being different, If you were to lay the pan on the motor, it will not sit due to the radius of the front and rear main caps. Not to mention the longer stroke... I thought that too years ago, and had the unpleasant surprise when it wouldn't come close to working.
