fuel solinoid

i think the fuel switching solinoid on my truck gets stuck and doesnt let fuel to the engine how do i fix that will i need to get a new solinoid.

My fuel guage doesn't work and the rear tank is working iffy just after I replaced electric pump. I mistakenly thought the the fuel sending units might be bad. The 6 outlet 5 wire fuel switching unit (soleniod) switches both the electric fuel pumps and power to the fuel guage sending units on my 85 302 EFI. The ford dealer wants $157 for the rail mounted switch. After searching 3 major self serve junkyards and coming up empty ( used ones go fast!) I am going to the dealer after I complete my diagnosis tonight. Good luck You are welcome to a .pdf copy of my wiring diagram.

Have you checked to make sure the fuel pumps are working. The solenoid is switched by pressure from the intank pumps on EFI engines, not electrically switched like the old ones. The intank pump and the high pressure pump should come on for a few seconds when you turn the key to start. If this isn't working then you may want to check the rollover switch, the indash tank switch, and the fuel relay before condemming the solenoid. Don't know what year your truck is, but on my 86 there is no wiring going to the solenoid. you have a sending unit wire, a fuel pump wire and a ground going to each tank , and a fuel pump wire and ground wire going to the high pressure pump but no wires going to the switching unit.
