Anyone care to recomend a good alarm system? I'd like to have keyless entry but other than that not too fancy. I've got a Viper in another vehicle but have heard people talk bad about them. Nothing specific. However they are dealer install only and I hate to turn loose a bunch of high school kids on my baby. Rather do it myself.
Anyone mount the electric door locks?
H'mmm --- what about Lojack? I'd love to run that in my truck and have the police catch the robbers cold blooded....but considering the power of Harrison, they'd probably out RUN the police!....?
I've had two Alpines..... both in Jeep Wranglers which are security nightmares. Now I'm a firm believer in good insurance because I've gotten checks when both the alarm systems were stolen. If I were worried about my rig getting stolen I'd have a secret cut off to the electric fuel pump or a valve somewhere in the fuel line.
Come to think of it I DID have a built 57 Cheby Tudor with a built 454 in front of a close ratio muncie 4-speed that I had just assembled stolen right out of my garage about 25 years ago! The punks left it on the side of the road - it had a fuel shutoff on it under the hood and their "fun ride" ended about 2 miles down the road!!....
Well I do beleive in the layered approach. I have several deterence including the Club but my alarm is old and keyless entry would be handy.
Wrangler, are you saying they broke into your car to steal the alarm system???That's worse than the kids around here who have been breaking into cop cars.
guess I could run a switched coil wire to a grid under the seat cover!
I got the newest Prestige alarm installed in my 77 f150 4x4 about three months ago for $200. It comes with a kill switch and keyless entry. The guys at the shop installed the power locks and also hooked up the alarm to the power windows I already had. So I can lower both windows and open the locks with the remote. It also came with the remote starter wich it works pretty good even though its a carburated engine, the only times when I have trouble with it, its when its been sitting there longer than a day.Other than that i think it was a fair price for all those features.
Thanks for the input. I wound up ordering a Crime Alert from Crutchfield. I'm not familiar with the brand but have had excellent service from Crutchfield. I'll repost if it works good/bad.
This is going back a ways, I installed a system in my truck made by Ungo, was real nice and included the ability for keyless entry(i installed power door locks also) window control, remote start if ya had it, window open, starter kill, the works... i dont know if they are still around but the brand was definitely Ungo.

I have one of those from Crutchfield, but got mine off of ebay for less than half of the Crutchfield price. It took a good weekend to install, and the support from the alarm manufacturer was outstanding! Quick and thorough responses to email and phone calls! The hard part was identifying the coil interupt relay wire from the ignition switch. Also, the alarm horn came with an external wire loop. If you cut the loop the horn will be super loud. I cut mine and the next day decided it was wayyyy tooo loud and obnoxious and reconnected the loop. I have some power door locks sitting in the garage and just haven't gotten around to installing them to work with the alarm system yet. Good luck on your install.
