Just wanted let everyone know that I have joined the ranks of proud F150 owners. Just picked it up on Wed last week and put about 450 miles on it in 3 days. It's an XLT screw with the 5.4, 3.55 limited slip, tow package, power rear slider, power drivers seat, the split bench cause the wife wanted it... but that's fine with me..... oh yeah... it's the bright red over silver two-tone.... absolutly love the truck. I have an Explorer as well, a 99.... which I had to drive on Sunday.... and the whole time I just wanted to get back into my new toy.
How do you like the split bench seat as opposed to capt chairs? Trying to decide what to get when I finally bite the bullet (could be up to a year from now). Functionally I like the split bench better, but capt chairs are nice to have.
I've got the split bench on my 04 fx4scab and love it. I had the captains chairs on my 04 bronco and i think that the bench is much more comfortable despite what people say about it as long as you keep your wallet out of your back pocket that is the seats are tapered on the edges and it pushes your wallet up and you can feel it
No regrets at all for the split bench. Much more practical than the center console and shifter (which only serves the purpose of imitating a manual shifter).
I actually like the split bench. It's nice to know that you can fit that 6th person in if you had to... ganted that person would have to be of small stature... besides.... it's nice if the wife wants to snuggle up. You can get the captains chairs with out the center shifter, but it gives you this huge console/armrest. I think the smaller console is actually more practicle. It prevents you from putting a bunch of useless junk in there... which I can see happening.
Now my only decision to make is what tonneau cover to go with. Any opinions on that. I don't want the fiberglass one... so it's which soft cover to get. Ford makes two different ones... a snap tight and one that doesn't use snaps..... anyone have the one without the snaps? How do you like it? If the one from Ford is crap, then what should I go with?
I've been extremely pleased with my Extang. It's snaps as opposed to velcro, but the snaps are on a sliding rail and they allow the cover to contract and expand with the weather. I got mine at a local automotive chain that specializes in doo-dads and fru-frus.LOL! Hunter's Custom Automotive. They installed it and everything for $182.
