EGR sensor fault code
EGR sensor fault code
Got code 85 (egr sensor fault code) on my 1989 Ford F250 7.5L EFI, 5 speed. Can someone tell me if this means to replace the egr valve or that "sensor?" screwed on top of it??
I just posted the same error 85 on my 90 F150 - but I read and 85 as a "canister purge solinoid circuit failure" - you can check the resitance of the EGR sensor with a meter to see of it is working. A more detailed check would include a vacuum pump tester. I am picking one up tonight for my problems. Good luck and if you figure it out post the results for the rest of us -
A way to test the EVP sensor without tools is this:
-Remove it from EGR valve.
-Push down on the pintle and tape it down
-Now run a KOEO test
-You should see code 34 in KOEO.If not, EVP is bad
By the way, 85 is Canister purge solenoid circut failure, like blacksmithtech said. There is a small canister to the left of the throttle body with a vacuum line. There is a wire harness on it; check it for cracks or broken wires. Also make sure the vacuum line is plugged in to the throttle body.
