code 1211 i think ??? oil foaming low viscosity??
mechanic told me the check engine light code was i think 1211 which was an oil problem? im using the rotella synthentic 5-30. ive used this for a couple of oil changes now. he told me to go to a different oil and 15-40. only comes on when i pull a hill with my trailer and it shifts down???

DTC P1211 indicates that injection control pressure was above or below commanded desired pressure during self test mode, or normal driving conditions.
Possible causes:
-- incorrect oil or viscosity
-- poor oil quality
-- gel fuel/no fuel
-- low fuel pressure
-- damaged IPR valve
-- high-pressure oil system leak
-- damaged high-pressure oil pump
-- damaged PCM
l Verify correct oil quality/viscosity and correct fuel grade are being used for the temperature conditions.

KE15 CONTINUOUS DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) P1211, P1209
DTC P1209 and P1211 indicates that injection control pressure was above or below desired level under normal driving conditions.
Possible causes:
incorrect oil or viscosity
poor oil quality
gel fuel/no fuel
low fuel pressure
damaged IPR valve
high-pressure oil system leak
damaged high-pressure oil pump
damaged PCM
Unless there is an oil level problem or you are over extending oil change intervals, I doubt if the oil is the problem. Rotella T Synthetic is is designed and formulated for diesel engines.

High Pressure Oil System
The 7.3L Powerstroke diesel injectors are powered by lubricating oil which is pressurized by a swashplate pump (Rexroth pump) in the engine valley. The pump output pressure ranges from 3,102 to 20,685 kPa (450 psi to 3,000 psi). Oil pressure is controlled by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) through the Injector Pressure Regulator Valve. The PCM controls pressure in the oil rail by opening (relieving pressure) and closing (increasing pressure) the IPR valve. The high pressure oil is delivered to oil rails in the cylinder heads. An Injection Control Pressure sensor mounted on one of the oil rails sends an analog voltage signal (0.5V to 5.0V) to the PCM for feedback control of the oil pressure.
ISP or ICP?
Oil Pressure Regulator
Fuel injection pressure is controlled by the injection control pressure (ICP) system. The ICP system consists of the following:
injection control pressure (ICP) sensor (located in the cylinder head oil gallery)
injection pressure regulator (IPR) located in the high-pressure oil pump
powertrain control module

I ran the Mobil 1 15w50 in my 7.3 for 200,000 miles. But at about 200,000 miles it started missing at low to mid RPM. Also it was bucking at speed 45/70 MPH. I ordered a New PCM. I got to reading on the Dieselmans site and it said to change the oil So I changed to Mobil 1 5w40 Truck SUV. It stopped all that acting up in 16 miles. I've put about 600 miles sense and it hasn't missed a time or bucked a time. I stopped the PCM order but I had already changed the HPOP because of an O-Ring leak, CPS, TPS, Rear speed sensor, Put in a BTS tranny and a in tank pre Pump mod. None of those other mods stopped the missing and Bucking, Changing the oil did.

your high pressure oil pump is getting weak and cant pump enough oil to satisfy the pressure demanded by pcm.
I also noticed that when truck was towing it would set a cel much easier bc engine was hotter and oil was thinner. Also ditch the 5-40 and get some 15-40, make sure its rated for diesels!! The injection process our psd's use is very hard on oils and tends to cause it to breakdown much quicker than normal. Dont skimp on your oil, i used rotella t 15-40 for 60k miles before i switched to amsoil full synthetic been running that for 15k miles now.
