I have a 79 F150 4X4 with a 400M and a C-6 transmission. It is leaking pretty good. I think it is the front seal, but I didnt know if it was causing another problem....when I start the truck it goes right into reverse. It takes several minutes until it will go forward. Could this mean something else is wrong with it? Also I was wondering if there is a way to patch a gas tank with pin holes from the outside? I would appreciate any help!!

If you've got as bad of a leak as it sounds your probably low on fluid. Might want to find your leak and fix it or find another tranny to swap it out with. Don't want to be flying down the highway and burn it up. As far as the gas tank you could try draining it down below the holes and putting JB Weld on it. This is only a temporary solution, tanks are cheap....

When you say the front seal is leaking, are you talking about the motor?
If your truck is in reverse when you start it, you need to adjust your shifter linkage. It's simple, but dirty.
A broken motor mount could cause the same problem. Have someone put there foot on the brake and then step on the gas. don't let the truck move and watch the motor. Does it jump up or down? If so, you've got a bad motor mount.
If the trans is slipping on you in the morning, add about 3/4 of a quart of Type F to it. It is a C6, isn't it?
Sounds like you need to work on your truck. It won't fix itself.
