Hey, I have a 86 F250 and I have 2 spare tires, I started with none, was given a 8 lug tire but it is a 245 size tire and it is smaller than my 235's on the truck. I then found a 235 tire n rim but the tire is kinda dry rotted. it holds pressure, but it has a few lines on it.. Which would be better to keep, the dry rotted right size one, or the nicer smaller one?
I agree with FSC. If used as a spare for a short distance, it wont matter. Who cares if it is a little smaller, as long as it will get your rearend out of a bind. As, far as keeping the dry rotted one, who is to say that it is still holding air when you are going to need it.
I'll keep the smaller one for now, and when i get a few bucks laying around I'll get a tire for the other rim. Is it possible for me to take the old tire off so I can sandblast and clean up the old rim by my self or is that too much work.
Grab 2 crowbars and work one under the bead, than stick the other one in and work your way around the bead until one side pops and repeat with the other side. It is a bit of work but once you get it going there is nothing to it. I wouldnt even worry about replacing or saving up the money to replace the smaller spare, if it will only be used as a spare.
