Ranger wont start

I have a 1987 ranger stx 4x4 2.9 v6. It was running great untill not to long ago i parked it and then the next day it wouldnt start. It gets good spark but no fuel. I have replaced the fuel pump in the tank the low pressure one, the fuel pump relay, the eec relay, and i put a new ignition module in it today and that still didnt help. I have also tried another computer but that dont help either. If you know anything that could help me out i would be very thankful Myron

I agree, check the inertia switch.

Then remove the connector from the switch & connect your voltmeter to the orange/light blue. Now turn the key to run.

If you see 12 volts for 2 seconds the problem is in the wiring to the fuel pump.

No 12 volts, the problem is somewhere between the EEC relay or fuse link & the inertia switch.

BTW, i would'nt throw away those old parts.

Edit, see my posts in the thread "1986 Ranger wont start"

If your not sure where to ground your voltmeter, just run a wire from the negative post on the battery into the cab.

If you have 12 volts on the orange/light blue wire at the pump relay but not at the inertia switch, you need to find the break in the wire or run a new wire.

You cant fix ANYTHING electrical on your truck until you understand how the circuit works.

Doesnt matter if it's the fuel pump circuit or power windows or cruise control ETC ETC.

What you need is a GOOO set of wiring diagrams

The Ford "electrical & vacuum troubleshooting manual" will tell you how to fix EVERY circuit on your truck. And it will only cost you around 20 bucks at www.helminc.com I suggest that you get one of these and then fix your truck.

These wiring diagrams are very simple to understand. MUCH better than what you will find in Haynes or Chiltons.

hello i have a 1987 ford ranger 2.9 v6 4x4. when i turn the switch on the fuel pump wont kick on. i have replaced the EEC relay, fuel pump relay, fuel pump, ignition switch no the cylinder and keys the other part, the ignition module, and switched computers and tried that still nothing. i also tried by passing the fuel shut off safety switch but that didn't help either. i also replaced the alternator diode that someone said might be wrong with it but that also hasn't helped. i checked and i have power to the pump. sorry that its been so long but i was working away and havent had much time but im getting laid off this week so i should have time to work on it.

there is an ingitons module in the stering colum take off the plastice covers and make sure its plugged all the way, or the module it self might be bad. (when you turn the key it moves a shaft in the colum that moves a switch in the module, the module is cheap and can be pick up at any parts store, it is held in by 2 keyed torx screws, you will need the proper size torx bit that is hollow to remove the screws.
