73-79 Model Kits or Die-Cast ?

Hey all,

It looks alot like my next duty assignment will be Germany in which case the old truck will go into storage. Pretty hard to get parts for a 78 in Europe. Anyway, I would love to get a model of a 73-79 so I can at least have it on my desk to look at while it's in storage. Unfortunately, I can't find one. Any one ever seen one out there? Anywhere?

I have seen small preassembled die-cast at Walmart, but no put together models. I believe the die-cast was a 79.

Hotwheels are all I know on the market - have a look in my gallery. There is also the limited edition version of the Sam Walton 79 F-150 which was available only to Wal-Mart employees - 1/18 or 1/24 I believe. There are vintage plastic models (the self assembly type) but try to find one!!!

73-79 Model Kits or Die-Cast ?

We had a thread going here a few months ago regarding plastic kits or Die-cast.

About 10 of us e-mail AMT/ERTL to strike a die for them(78-79 anyway) and start mass producing them.

I'll see if I can find the thread.

They were selling the Sam Walton trucks here in Ky. I don't remember if I got one or not. Most of my Hot Wheels, etc. are boxed up in the top of the garage.

Dennis,

I looked up a site from one of the old forums you listed, no dice. Hard to believe they would have a model of a Courier but not a full size. A Courier? Are there any of those still running? I bet somewhere there's a misguided soul looking for a model of his 78 Chevy and all he can find is the Chevy Luv.

It's sad that they don't have models of regular cars and trucks out there. I'll keep looking.

Subject: Starving for 67 - 79 Ford Pickups.

On behalf of many Ford Truck Enthusiasts and avid model builders,I would like to propose the issue of plastic or Die-cast Ford Pick-up trucks.

We are in DIRE need of 78 or 79 Ford Pickups.
The only ford trucks of this era were promotional model kits. Like the Firestone "Macho Machine"

It seems you are un-aware of the amount of requests for this product.
If you were, they would be built.

"If you build it or make it available, they will BUY it"
You have an un-tapped goldmine out here because of this reason.
There are a Min'ute amount of these model kits that have found e-bay but the prices are Astronomical.

Please consider issuing these trucks for our consumption.
Make them with an option to either 2x4 them or 4x4 them.
I have enclosed a photo of mine for your viewing pleasure.

You may visit this site
www.ford-trucks.com
and ask for me "Mil1ion" about the need for Model kits if you want.
Here is a thread about model kits on our site :

Please feel free to read.

They actually made several different versions,

There are a few that I dont have also, such as "boonie boss" and "tuff truck" which were the same kit with a little different decals.
There are also "Big Foot" kits around.

You can find them on E-Bay. Look under hobbies, models and do a search. The ones I've seen have been bid up around $60 or so. Seems high but it's the only place I've seen them.

60 bucks? Hopefully those guys Dennis Emailed will listen. I would love a model of my truck but $60? That's collector prices and I'm not a collector.

Hopefully someone starts making these models.

I've seen them go on eBay for cheaper. If you do a search for "197* ford truck" all kinds of stuff will come up for these trucks. I usually do it daily and there are a few models on there today.

73-79 Model Kits or Die-Cast ?

To all you Ford truck fans, Merry Christmas!
On my computer table I em looking at an old amt/ERTI model kit, part number 6791, sold in 1984, of a 1979 Ford BIGFOOT 4x4x4, The Original Monster Truck, in 1/25th scale. This kit is actually the 1974 Bigfoot truck body with the 79 grill, shell, and headlights. The kit is crued compaired to the quality of model kits made today, but it might be a place to start on getting a model manufacture to purchase the molds or dies from ERTI. Theirs a manufacture out there that has these molds or dies, as they are never thrown away, and are offen sold to other model manufacturing companys after the origanal manufacture stops making it. Hope this helps. Barts79

73-79 Model Kits or Die-Cast ?

Frequently, model companies only stop making something when the die breaks. In that case, usually the repair costs more than they were making on it, so it gets stored, sold, or scrapped. I have seen many great model railroad products go this way, and this is the most likely reasoning for the current lack of kits. There is a poll going on now up in the general conversation forum, with possible announcements to follow.
