Do I or don,t I
I have a 90 ranger 2.3 5spd i,m wondering if i have a MAP sensor or not . I called a local ford dealership an he kept saying MAF instead . I checked my chiltons manual it said it,s located on the passenger side firewall. The reason why is that I the black smoke problem all ranger owners encounter.

A quicklook at a GOOD wiring diagram-like the Ford EVTM- will tell you which one you have. But, even the pathetic wiring diagram in the Chiltons should tell you.
If it has a MAF it will be in the intake tube between the air filter housing and throttle body with 4 wires attached.
Have you pulled any codes?
Checked for a leaking fuel pressure regulator?

Probably not the FPR then.
Your Haynes manual will tell you how to check fuel pressure. This will tell you if you have a leaky injector.
Strange that your not at least getting an O-2 rich code.
You dont happen to have a mysterious coolant leak do you?
