Rear shock mounts

I've finally gotten my 66 flare side (2WD) down to the rails and was removing the old rear shocks today so I could better clean the frame and read end. I notice that the driver's side upper shock mount is shorter than the passenger side. The mounting plate is triangular and the holes in the frame seem as though they are drilled for two different size mounts. Or, the previous owners had just rigged in something. One set of holes (the ones the current mount was in) are really mangled. It used to sit a little lower on the driver's side before the tear-down.

Is there a difference in the two mounts, or do I need to get a correct one for the driver's side?

Thanks for any help.

i replaced the rear shocks on my '66 f-250 flareside 2wd about 2 months ago. it seemed to me that both sides were the same. i'm pretty sure i would have noticed if it wasn't. the holes on the lower passenger mount were elongated, i believe because of a loose bolt, the bolt was worn too. the truck did sit a little bit lower on the passenger side, but was barely noticeable. i welded washers on the outsides of the mount as close to the location of the holes on the drivers side as i could by eye.

rear shock mounts

You can update your rear shocks by removing the upper mounts from (I used the upper from a 79 f150) truck and replacing tlhe 66 mounts. This gives the choice of rear shocks to be able to get a wider choice any new shocks instead of only being able to get only a stock shock. Just remove the rivets and use grade 8 bolts as replacements. Works fine.
