I was really irritated when the spokesman said that if he owned one, he would get rid of it right away. I really question them now. I don't believe they tested anything heavier than a 1/2ton truck.
One thing I did like was that Ford said they are planning to do some serious changes within the next couple of years. It needs a facelift now, not tommorrow.

You can definitely see the difference between the Tundra and the F-150. It ain't pretty. To be brutally honest about it the Ford folds up like an aluminum can. Combine this with the Firestone/Explorer fiasco and the fact that Ford is losing marketshare to both GM and Dodge in the light truck/SUV market and it looks like ol' Jacques may be looking for a new job.
What really cracked me up is that while I was reading the story a big Ford banner advertisement was playing right above it!
LAST EDITED ON 05-Jun-01 AT 09:25 AM (EST)[p]A friend of ours was just recently in an accident where a car hit her Tundra head on. The police say the car was doing about 60 & she was doing around 45. They believe the lady that hit her was probably already gone before they hit - heart attack.
Her truck did just like they show in the video. Everything dropped away from the cab and the interior was pretty much undamaged. She was a little sore for a day and now you wouldn't even know she was in a head-on collision. They plan on getting another Tundra to replace the one totaled.
As for Steve & I - Ford Trucks are the only trucks.

i would like to see the results for a f-250, scares the hell out of me. every accident is different. i do not own, or intend to own one of these trucks i was always kind of leary about that back door( ford chevy or dodge)i feel pretty safe in my 87 with the i beam front end and all, id still like to see a new 250 go through the test.

Looks like Ford's got their work cut out for them redesigning the front end. I think comparing it to GMC/Chevy and Dodge is fair. The Toyota isn't really a full sized truck (put one next to the competition and you'll see what I mean) so I think its an apples/orange comparison. I'd like to see video on other Ford trucks..... hmmmmm
Does anyone ever wonder if money doesnt play a factor i these test? Bribary perhaps. I dunno i havent seen the video. but arent the trucks actually designed to crumple like cans......making them look bad but absorbing most of the hit?
Do ya'll remember when alot of folks was gettin' killed my big trucks and bigger suv's when they was in cars? Well, if you think back, the U.S.Government told the big3 they have got to build there trucks and suv's flimsier to accept more impact and more damage. Instead, for some brainstalled reason,to build the cars better to withstand more impact.
By the way, the barrier used is deformable in the crash test.
Which is supposed to represent another vehicle. But I still don't see how it can rep. another car.
I hope I never have a tundra commin' at me in the wrong way.
I saw the test video and it sickened me. I immediately called my son and told him to hold off buying his new Ford truck until I can find out how the F250 does. I do NOT want my grandchildren riding in the F150. Ford had better come up with a "Better Idea," and be quick about it. So far they are ignoring the problem.
I have got news for you buddy, every car is unsafe. Unless you've got cash for a hummer or a tank. Maybe you would feel safer with your family riding in a neon or escort or something. You can ask my mom how well those take to head on collisions. She gave up cars for an effie and feels safer now. There is no such thing as an absolutely safe car and every vehicle has its stress point. Maybe we should all give up cars and go back to horses. Then somebody will still have something to complain about. The insurance institute will do a study saying horses are unsafe because they can throw you off and stomp you to death.
People who say it can't be done should not interrupt the person doing it.
Three days after I got my driver's license a woman pulls out in front of me and there was nothing I could do. WHAM.
When I was 18 years old, I came around a blind corner, in the rain and there was a lady making an illegal left hand turn. Nothing I could do. WHAM.
When I was driving my 67 F100 three years ago, I had a lady cut me off in bumper to bumper rush hour traffic. WHAM.
Two years ago, in rush hour traffic, in the rain, and the cars in front of me came to a sudden dead stop. I stopped with plenty of time and space to spare. 5 seconds later, WHAM, I get hit from behind by an Isuzu Trooper.
Each time it some one else's fault and there was nothing I could do. Crash tests DO matter and the truck DOES have a safety issue according to the test. But that does not mean that it is an unsafe truck. It passed government tests with flying colors and you have mass on your side in a crash. It does however, indicate that in an offset crash, you'd better hope the object you're hitting is a smaller vehicle. Saying you won't get into an accident is a lame excuse ---- otherwise, why not setup your truck so you're sitting on the front bumper while you drive or drive moped in rush hour?
