Recycling an '89 Taurus Wagon
The transaxle is dust, and that puts the kaibosche on it as a driver. However - the engine is good, its a 3.8 FI and Gary (a friend of mine who carries every masters certificate Ford has) tells me there's a balancer shaft that can be removed, allowing the engine to bolt up to any rear-wheel drive transmission in the ford line.
Apparently this is little known...
That would make it a prime candidate for a Ranger II driveline.
The car had a whole bunch of goodies, being an LX version, so the front seats will migrate to my F-100 along with anything else it occurs to me to rip out of it including the AC components I need to complete the system in the truck.
I want its rims too, they still have lots of good rubber on them. I'm trying to think of everything I can possibly get off of it before it goes to the boneyard...
Anything electrical is going to be salvaged, right down to the doorlock solenoids, and if I can think of a way to use the digital dashpanel cluster I'm going to go for it.
It was a nice car, pity about its weak points...
