I just purchased a 79 F-150 and is the front end a dana 44 and the rear a 9"? its stock from what i have been told. If so are these good combos? Im using the truck for a mud truck and want to know if these will hold up ok? thanks for all of your help
That setup has been working well for me. Check out my mud truck in my gallery. just click on the little photo of my truck to the left of the screen and it will take you right to it.
That seems to be the most common setup for these. It probably has 3.50:1 gears too. I have a 78 and 79 and both have D44/9"/3.50 gears. I use the 78 for mud and have had no power/axle problems. It's got a 460/c6 and 33's and the only problem I've ever had was not big enough tires.
If you want to see what I've been through with the 78, [link:www.brayarch.com/~kevin/pipeline02/pipeline02.html|CLICK HERE].
SwampdonkeyII, My dad's 78 F-150 4x4 with this same set-up is still going strong at over 200,000 miles. He bought the truck new, and I am the only one to ever touch it, so I know it has not had any serious repairs.
