I have a 92 f250 4x4 with 7.3, e4od. The truck and transmision have 118,000 miles. The transmissiion has a banks shift kit. My problem started yesterday with the rear abs light staying on, the od flashing and the speedomerter reading "0" then jumping around while the tranny is shifting very hard. I tried disconnecting the batteries and waiting 15 min, which did not work. The transmission was serviced 5000 miles ago and there is plenty of fluid. I am not really clear on how to retrieve the codes or what to do next. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
sounds like the abs /speed sensor in the rear dif its either failed or the wires got chafed off or broke thats wat was wrong with mine the trans goes into limp mode
good luck
i think its a 10 mm bolt on top of the rear dif remove the bolt and keeper then i twist and pull the sensor out i do not know how to test the sensor but i am sure that someone on here will know how to
Butch, Thank you for the advice! I replaced the abs/speedo sensor and that fixed the problem. $30.00 for the sensor and 5 minutes to pull and replace it. Thanks again.
4030..... there are three things that will send the E40D into limp mode which you were in, VSS(speed sensor), tach unreliable, and the FIPL setting(fuel injection pump lever). VSS ohms must be between 900-2500 measured between the terminals.
